I have had two conversations with people recently in which I made mention of the fact that I not only have my own Life Coach, but that I have been hired by over 50 other Life Coaches over the years. Both people were surprised that I or any other Life Coach would themselves need a Life Coach.
I really don’t get the thought process behind that any more than I would get a doctor not having his own GP, a hairdresser not being perfectly coiffured or a Dentist letting her own teeth rot.
It would be very difficult for me to suggest that anybody and everybody can benefit from Life Coaching in one breath and then to turn round and say that I don’t use a Life Coach because my life is just so perfect and couldn’t possibly be any better.
As Wayne Dyer says ‘You don’t have to be ill to get better’
I am very happy with my life. I love my job, my family and where I live but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t be better. I can and will become a better Life Coach, I can and will become fitter, I can and will become a better husband and all round person.
A Life Coach helps make me accountable.
I am by nature somebody that can easily slip into procrastination and I guess even laziness. Although I have gone from working 70 or 80 hours a week 3 years ago to about 40 I don’t want to let it go any lower than that.
I like my work/life balance and working with my Life Coach who knows my goals and aspirations, I know that it will not drop to the point where I am not doing enough to succeed.
I have never spoken to anybody that claimed that they didn’t benefit from using a Life Coach. Seriously, never.
So why don’t more people uses life coaches?
I guess there are many answers to that varying from being unable to afford to hire one to not even being aware that they exist. A
nother major reason in my opinion is that people always think that there is something round the corner that will finally make them happy. The new house, the sports car, the vacation, the promotion or even the retirement. Whatever it is, they believe that external stimuli will make them happy and content when nothing could be further from the truth.
A good Life Coach can help you to appreciate that genuine happiness always comes from within. They can also give you the tools to make sure that you decide on how you feel and not external forces that are outside your control. Now to my way of thinking, that really is something worth investing in.
